I understand that today is also “Donut Day”, and it’s coincidental that it falls on the 70th anniversary of D-Day, but I find it disrespectful that people are making jokes about Donuts and D-Day.
Please do not forget the real, important, meaningful event that occurred on this day, June 6, 1944. Real men lost their lives, they sacrificed everything. D-Day was an extremely important event that turned the tide of WWII, and helped lead to the eventual victory of the Allied forces. The Americans, British, Canadians, Australians, French, and all the soldiers from the other Allied nations involved, sacrificed in ways I can’t even begin to understand. So we should show respect today for what they did.
I don’t usually write stuff like this on my blog, but I believe this is important, and this deserves respect. Many of the men in my family fought in WWII, although not on the beaches of Normandy, but I still think of them today, as well as all the soldiers on those French beaches, 70 years ago.
